What have I been listening to

Hello there, it’s me again. I just thought I would write a short thing to share what I have been listening to lately.

Honky Tonk Hell by Gabe Lee

I became a fan of Gabe Lee pretty much as soon as his first album, Farmland, landed next year. I loved that album so I was excited to hear his follow up. Well it is here, it is called Honky Tonk Hell and it does not disappoint. It just feels like a big steap up from the first album in every way. If Farmland was an indicator that Gabe Lee is the real deal in country music then Honky Tonk Hell really cements his “real deal” status.

Never Will by Ashley McBryde

Another country album and another rising star. I first heard of Ashley McBryde when I heard Girl Going Nowhere and loved that song. Never Will is her 2nd studio album and in my opinion is an improvement on her first. There are moments where I would question some of the production choices and while there isn’t a “Girl Going Nowhere” moment on ther album, there is a lot to like here.

Everybody’s Going To Die by Church of the Cosmic Skull

Yeah, it is still in my regular rotation. There is something about this band’s sound that keeps bringing me back. I’ll still be listening to it at the end of the year.

The Phoenix by Baleful Creed

Baleful Creed are one of my favourite newer bands and for good reason. Their first two albums were just what I wanted when I wanted them. Riffs for days and those JD soaked vocals and pounding rhythms make for some good heavy rock. Heavily inspired by Alice in Chains, Danzig and Fireball Ministry there should be something for fans of those bands to enjoy. The Phoenix is their first song from the upcoming difficult third album and I am excited to get my hands on that.

Sound Awake by Karnivool

Not a new album but I recently watched a “What makes this song great” video by Rick Beato where he a breakdown of Goliath and I wanted to check them out, so I started with Sound Awake and I like their progressive metal sound. I look forward to listening to more of their music
